Confirmation is one of the three sacraments of initiation for Catholics. It is a sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of the baptismal gifts. Confirmation is administered by laying-on of hands and anointing with chrism accompanied by prayer. The chrism is blessed by the bishop and the bishop administers the sacrament. All baptized persons can and should be confirmed. The effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is for the individual to be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. According to the general guidelines of the Archdiocese of Mobile, a student must attend at least two academic years of religious education before receiving the sacrament of Confirmation. Since sacraments are celebrated in the parish setting, all candidates for Confirmation, no matter which academic school they attend, receive preparation in unison for the sacrament.
CONFIRMATION REQUIREMENTS
Confirmation preparation at Christ the King begins freshmen year of high school and concludes with the Sacrament of Confirmation during the spring of junior year. Our program is integrated into our Life Teen curriculum. Candidates must attend Life Nights on Sundays once a month and attend biannual sessions with a catechist. Teens who wish to be confirmed should register for the parish’s Confirmation Preparation Program in each of their Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years of high school. There is a $50 registration fee per family each year.
