Parents & Young Adults

To help with Edge Youth Ministry, all parents/volunteers must be Child Protection Trained for the safety of both adults and students. St. Lawrence Catholic Church offers Child Protection Training the second Tuesday of each month. Those who have already taken this training must update their training online by October 1. Get Involved: Parents

In the Catholic faith, parents are considered the primary educators of their children on all matters about faith. As such, we invite parents to get involved with our ministry in some capacity. We have a variety of ways to get involved!

• Chaperone our events. To be in compliance with the archdiocesan Safe Environment policies, we must have 1 adult (21+) chaperone to every 10 students. 
• Donate desserts, snacks, or drinks for our EDGE Nights. Email [email protected] to donate food.
• Parents can also meet during our time to learn more about the topic discussed at EDGE Night; provided materials will include catechesis on the topic, provide discussion questions for parents on application to daily life, and resources for conversation with your child after EDGE Night is over. Parents wanting to facilitate this session are asked to email the Youth Minister at [email protected].

Get Involved: Young Adult Volunteers

In addition to these things, our Core Team is made up of young adults (high school age and older) who are both active in their faith and excited to bring young students to Christ. The Core Team will lead small groups, participate in fun activities, and engage students. The Core Team is not made up of parents, but rather young adults or singles in the area. If you know someone who would help us build the ministry, please put in them in contact with Dillon Stein.

• YouTube.com: Fr. Mike Schmitz and Bishop Robert Barron videos on various topics
• AscensionPresents.com: short videos by dynamic speakers, “providing engaging content for our audience that reflects the good, the true and the beautiful”
• LifeTeen.com: Blogs written by high schoolers, youth ministers, and missionaries about faith, prayer, culture, etc.
• Formed.org: a digital library of Catholic content. Visit www.ctkdaphne.org/formed for the parishioner password.
• Decision Point: Dynamic Catholics’ Confirmation prep program, which is suitable for 8^th/9^th grade catechesis. Try online at: http://dynamiccatholic.com/confirmation/view-program/.
• Christ the King’s EQUIP sessions: presentations for parents on teaching the faith to your child, held monthly in Assumption Hall

• Tips for Faith Filled Parenting and Home Life

There are other opportunities for students of this age to get involved with parish life. The list below does not include all activities; email [email protected] if there is another way your child would like to be involved.

• Altar Servers: all children in 4th grade or older who have made their First Communion can be trained to serve at Mass as an altar server. Altar servers assist the priest during Mass and are expected to fully participate in Mass as they serve. For more information on training, contact the Parish Office at [email protected]. (If your child wants to serve at the Sunday 4:30 PM Mass, email [email protected].)
• Ushers: 8^th grade youth may serve as ushers for the Sunday 4:30 PM Mass, assisting with the collection. Email [email protected] if you would like to help.
• Vacation Bible School: 7^th and 8^th graders can help with Vacation Bible School activities including skits, games, and more. For more information, contact the church office at [email protected].
• CYO Athletics: Cheerleading, soccer, football, tennis, golf, volleyball, and basketball are offered to provide team and athletic opportunities for parish children in grades K-8. For more information, contact Matt McDonald at [email protected].
• Boy Scouts: Boys ages 11-18 are eligible to participate in Boy Scouting, which provides young boys and men with the opportunity to grow and learn through leadership development as they pledge to do their duty to God, others, and self.
